Cancellation policies vary considerably between events and platforms, ranging from a full refund if an event itself is cancelled or significantly changed, through to no refund at all for a simple change of personal plans on the buyer's own part unrelated to anything the organiser has done.

Reading a policy before purchasing, rather than assuming standard consumer protections automatically apply in every situation, avoids genuine disappointment later if plans change unexpectedly. Some platforms offer optional add on protection at checkout, covering a wider range of circumstances than the organiser's own default policy provides.

When an event is genuinely cancelled or postponed by the organiser themselves, most jurisdictions require some form of refund or credit to be offered to ticket holders. Understanding your specific rights in this situation, rather than simply the organiser's own preferred process, is worth knowing well in advance. Attendees rarely mention this directly, yet its absence is usually the first thing they notice when it goes missing.
