Understanding booking fees
Launch library · evergreen read

Booking fees cover costs that sit behind the ticket price itself and are not usually visible to the buyer at first glance: payment processing, platform infrastructure and, often, a share that supports the ticketing service rather than the event being attended. They can feel frustrating at checkout, but they are rarely arbitrary additions with no real purpose behind them.
Comparing the all in price across different ticketing providers, where an event happens to be available through more than one, is the simplest way to avoid paying more than genuinely necessary. Some providers advertise a lower headline price while quietly adding larger fees later in the checkout process, so checking the final total always matters more than the first number shown on screen.
Fees also tend to be lower for door sales or venue box offices where these options are available, since these routes skip some of the online processing layer entirely. For smaller local events in particular, choosing this route can make a genuine and noticeable difference to the final price actually paid.
