Outdoor festivals rarely deliver just one kind of weather across a full day, let alone a full weekend of programming. Mornings can be genuinely cold even when afternoons turn hot and dusty, and a clear sky can give way to sudden rain with very little warning, especially at events held in open fields or exposed coastal areas.
Layering solves most of this without adding real bulk to a bag you have to carry all day. A light base layer, a change of top for the heat of the afternoon, and something waterproof that packs down small cover the realistic range of conditions most festivals throw at attendees, without requiring a full wardrobe change on site partway through.
Footwear deserves exactly the same thinking as clothing does. Shoes that handle both dust and sudden mud equally well, broken in properly before the event, will matter more to your overall comfort across a long weekend than almost anything else you choose to pack, weather included in that calculation.
