Sun protection at outdoor festivals

Full days spent outdoors at a festival, often with limited shade across an open field or exposed site, expose skin to far more sun than most attendees realise until the genuine damage is already visibly done by the following morning, when the discomfort of sunburn can meaningfully affect the rest of the weekend.

Reapplying sunscreen regularly throughout the day matters more than a single thorough application each morning, since sweat, water and simple time all reduce its effectiveness considerably as the hours pass. Packing a small, travel sized bottle to genuinely reapply midday makes this realistic rather than merely aspirational in theory.

A hat and light, breathable clothing that still covers exposed skin add real protection beyond sunscreen alone, particularly during the most intense midday hours when direct sun is strongest overhead. Combining several simple habits, rather than relying on any single measure, is what keeps sun exposure genuinely manageable across a whole festival.
