Looking after your voice across a festival
Launch library · evergreen read

Singing along enthusiastically across several days of loud music, combined with shouting simply to be heard over crowd noise, takes a genuine toll on your voice that many attendees only notice once it has already become hoarse or noticeably strained by the middle of a longer, multi day event.
Staying properly hydrated helps considerably more than most people realise, since a dry throat strains far more easily than one kept genuinely moist throughout the day. Avoiding excessive shouting between songs, where possible, and simply resting your voice during quieter moments also meaningfully reduces the cumulative strain.
If your voice does become genuinely hoarse partway through a longer event, resting it deliberately for a stretch, rather than continuing to push through regardless, gives it a real chance to recover before the next big singalong moment arrives later in the program or on a following day. Most attendees never consciously notice this working well, which is precisely the sign that it has been done properly.
