Building a pre-show ritual

A simple pre-show ritual, whether that is a specific meal, a favourite playlist on the way to the venue or a particular way of getting ready, genuinely helps mark the transition from an ordinary day into the different, more heightened energy of an evening out at a live show.

These rituals do not need to be elaborate to be genuinely effective. Even something as small as arriving with a specific friend or always grabbing a coffee beforehand can become a meaningful marker that signals, in a small way, that the night ahead is genuinely something different from the everyday.

Over time, these small habits build a personal sense of anticipation that many regular gig goers describe as part of the genuine pleasure of live music, extending the actual enjoyment of a night out well beyond the specific hours spent inside the venue itself. Many attendees only realise how much they valued this habit once a busy night forces them to skip it entirely.
